Harrison Hotsprings is
located at the southern end of the largest lake in the lower
mainland of the Fraser Valley. Harrison Hot Springs is famous
for its therapeutic Springs. The lake front offers a variety
of activities, such as biking, sun tanning, swimming, boating,
and wind surfing. To get to Harrison Hotsprings take the Mt
Lehman Road in the direction of Abbotsford International Airport.
At the junction with the Trans Canada Highway travel East Bound
just past Chilliwack. Where highway Nr. 1 and 7 cross turn left.
It is here were you can take a pause to visit Minter
Gardens. Eleven theme gardens, an excellent place
for lunch in one of the restaurants, or just to stroll around
and enjoy the display of colours, and architectural design.
North Shore of the Fraser River
After visiting Minter gardens continue highway number 9 which
takes you across the mighty River Fraser into the town of Agassiz.
On the way you run into Greenhill
Acres, a unique farm which offers a great selection
of honey, jams, preserves and pickles. Do not forget to visit
the Agassiz -Harrison Museum,
just into the grounds of the Pacific Research Station. We continue
our trip past Agassiz and turn right on Highway nr. 9. This is
a scenic road, which leads you directly into the village of Harrison.
The Village of Harrison
Fishing for Salmon, Steal head, Dolly Vardin and Rainbow Trout
promises you an exciting adventure. In front of the Harrison
Hot Springs Hotel you can board for a leisure cruise, or rent
a powered water craft. If you are into golf, the Sandpiper
Golf Course has it all. The village has a magnificent
Boulevard which is well worth strolling about. The view of the
lake is breath taking especially from the dining room from the
Hotel Harrison. In late summer the village host a sand castle
building contest, which is world famous.
West bound Scenic Route Nr.

After you enjoyed having been in Harrison Hot Springs take the
scenic route Nr. 9 west bound. After 20 minutes you enter Kilby
Provincial Park. Here you overlook the Harrison Bay,
and the Harrison River, which with the Fraser River, feeds the
Harrison Lake. Adjacent to the park, at the west end of Kilby
Road visit the Kilby store and
farm. It is a historic site, and very charming. We continue
our journey along highway nr. 9 just North of Harrison Mills,
on the Moris Valley Road (approximately 6 kilometres) to the Chehalis
River Salmon and Trout Enhancement Facility. On your
way to Mission, you may want to drive up the Hemlock mountain.
At the Hemlock Valley Resort you
have 4 ski lifts and 34 runs. Actually there is enough to do
here to stay for the day. Back on scenic highway nr. 9 from Harrison
Hot Springs to downtown Mission, where you go west on Lougheed
Highway to 287th Street. Turn right and follow the
signs to the Power House at
Stave Falls. Besides the displays you can engage in
interactive plays. Here you find the Fraser
River Heritage Park when you follow Stave Lake Street
North. The vista offered is that of Matsqui-prairie, a wonderful
view of the Valley. Back into Mission we visit the serene grounds
of Westminster Abbey.
Returning to Abbotsford
At Mission we cross the Fraser River travelling South. At the
junction with Harris Road we take a right, and enter the Village
of Matsqui, a historic charming place. Wong
Farms offers delightful produce. We are now in the
centre of the Fraser Valley, the city of Abbotsford which is
famous for the Abbotsford
International Air Show in August of each year. For
10 minutes we follow the scenic Harris road to the West, which
winds into the Mount Lehman Road. At the red light you turn left
on the Mount Lehman Road, and the next on the right hand side
the Townshipline Road, which is where you began your journey.
Besides Harrison Hot Springs there are other destinations you
can visit. We are but 45 minutes from the Beaches
at White Rock, 30 minutes for historic Fort
Langley, 40 minutes from Chilliwack, and
one hour drive from Vancouver.
The city of Abbotsford
Abbotsford is serviced by West Jet, is located central in the
Fraser Valley, traversed by the Trans Canada Highway and offers
many amenities. Within minutes you are at the greater Vancouver
Zoological Centre, the Ledgeview
Golf & Country Club, the Matsqui
recreational centre, the Mill
lake & Centennial Park, the MSA Museum, Trethewey House & Heritage
Gallery, or downtown
Abbotsford with excellent shopping facilities. Abbotsford
is located just some kilometres from the US border, just north
of the 49th parallel. If you travel towards Sumas,
you have the opportunity to visit the Fraser
Valley Trout Hatchery Visitor Centre at 34345 Vye
Road, Abbotsford. There is a life stream fish display.
