At Taams’ Bed & Breakfast Rest haven Resort we hike
the trails of the facility every morning, which takes us about
40 minutes. It is an excellent work-out. Hiking in BC
is very rewarding. British Columbia offers magnificent views
and diversity is great. There are some good we sites which
refer
to hiking
in
BC, the links of which are given in this website.
Here are some of my favourites.
Westminster Abbey Trails
While hiking in BC, the Westminster
Abbey trails are a must. Located in Mission
the Abbey trail winds through the 80 hectare estate of the
Seminary of Christ owned and operated
by the Benedictine Monks of the Westminster Abbey. If affords
wonderful views of the Abbey and forested areas of the grounds.
Portions overlook the Fraser River as well as passing by a large
pond. The Westminster Abbey trails are about 20 minutes from
our location. Follow the Mount Lehman Road North, take a left
at Harris Road, then left on the Abbotsford - Mission Highway.
The Abbey stands out as a landmark in Mission, and it is easy
to find your way to there.
Hoover Lake
Hiking in BC should include the Hoover
Lake Trail.
It takes a distance of 3.7 kilometres over an elevation of 250
metres. From Mission take the Dewdney Trunk Road. After about
15 minutes you ‘ll see the sign for the trail head on your
right. Across from the Mission Landfill. The trail, a gravel
road, starts out easy enough but soon turns into a steady climb.
The average grade is 10%. Stay on the main road and after 3 kilometres
there is a sign for Hoover Lake to you left. The last 700 metres
is through a trail that drops down through the dark forest. There
are a few primitive campsites at the lake and one outhouse. The
lake is small, only four hectares.
Lindeman Lake
Hiking in British Columbia could take forever. Some of the trails
require considerable expertise. This is one of the hiking in
B.C. trails which the whole family can enjoy. From our location
take the Trans Canada Highway and turn left at Chilliwack Lake
Road. This road is just past the turn off for Cultus Lake. There
is a steel bridge and a sign pointing to Sardis. Cross the bridge
and turn right on Chilliwack Lake Road. The Vedder river is on
your right. Stay on this road for about 38 kilometres. At the
B.C. Forest Services campsite you find ample parking. The hiking
trail starts here. The distance is 10 kilometres, the elevation
gain about 400 metres. The high point is 1000 metres. It takes
about 5 hours to hike. This hike leads along the East side of Lindeman
Lake, which is of a fair size. On the west side of the
lake towering over you are some peaks called the Gargoyles. The
lake is in a narrow valley so the view are great. At the far
end of the lake is a board walk and a small beach. At this point
you can continue you hike to Greedrop Lake.
Campbell Lake
While visiting the Village of Harrison Hot Springs and you are
into hiking in British Columbia why not take the opportunity
to explore the Campbell Lake Trail. The trail start at the foot
of Balsam Avenue on Highway number 9, two short block from the
village of Harrison Hot Springs. Click under Harrison Hot Springs
for directions. Hiking Campbell
Lake is a round trip of 9 kilometres,
with an elevation of 600 metres. The high point is 610 metres.
It takes about 4.5 hours to hike.
Other opportunities for hiking in British Columbia
Within easy driving distance are other places for hiking in
British Columbia. You may explore Buntzen Lake near Port Moody.
Chilliwack Lake approximately 50 minutes from Chilliwack, the
Dykes at Maple Ridge, The Hope Lookout & Loop near the old
Hope Princeton Way, across from rainbow Junction. The Hope -
Nicola Valley Trail, which is reached by driving from Hope East
on Kawkawa Lake Road. Follow the signs to the Coquihalla Canyon
Recreation Area. Park here, and walk through the Othello Quintette
Tunnels to the kiosk marking the Nicola Trail. In the Coquihalla
Canyon Provincial Park you can drive East on the Kawkawa Lake
Road to the cemetery. Turn right onto the Kettle Valley Road,
and after one kilometre parking is possible. This is where the
Kettle Valley Railway Trail starts. To mention some other hiking
trails in British Columbia: Ladner Creek, Landstom Bridge, Malcolm
Knapp, University of British Columbia Research Forest, and the
Poco trail
After a day’s of hiking the trails of South West British
Columbia it is a treat to come back to the relaxed luxurious
environment of Taams’ Bed and Breakfast Rest Haven Resort,
with all the service, hospitality and amenities for your pleasure..
